Web Server OS Lookup checks the public HTTP response headers returned by a website and looks for visible operating system, platform, web server, runtime, proxy, and CDN clues. Enter a domain, IP address, or URL to see what the site exposes to a normal public request.
HTTP headers can suggest Linux, Windows Server, FreeBSD, IIS, Apache, nginx, PHP, ASP.NET, Cloudflare, CloudFront, Fastly, Varnish, and other infrastructure signals. The result is an inference, not authoritative server inventory, because many production sites hide, rewrite, or proxy these headers.

What This Tool Checks
The tool sends a bounded public HTTP request and reviews headers that may identify the server stack. Important examples include Server, X-Powered-By, X-AspNet-Version, Via, X-Server, X-Backend-Server, CF-Ray, X-Served-By, X-Amz-Cf-Id, and X-Varnish. These headers can reveal web server software, runtime frameworks, CDN edges, reverse proxies, or sometimes an operating system family.
How This Improves on the Legacy CI3 Tool
The legacy CI3 implementation returned the raw Server header. The Laravel version still shows that header, but also interprets related headers, separates OS signals from web-server software, identifies common CDN and proxy clues, reports confidence, and explains when the origin server may be hidden behind an edge service.
What the Result Means
If the result says an operating system is not exposed, it means the public HTTP response did not reveal enough evidence. It does not mean the operating system cannot be known by the site owner or hosting provider. If a CDN or reverse proxy is detected, the visible headers may describe the edge service rather than the origin web server.
Security and Operations Notes
Many administrators intentionally minimize server banners to reduce unnecessary technology disclosure. Hiding headers is not a substitute for patching, but it can reduce casual fingerprinting. Keep web server software, runtime platforms, operating systems, TLS libraries, and reverse proxies patched regardless of how much version information is exposed publicly.
